Inca Trail

There are two ways to get to Machu Picchu: a train ride, that takes a couple of hours, or a hike, that takes a few days. We decided to be adventurous and do a 4-day hike of the Inca Trail with Peru Treks, which was the highlight of the trip! We trekked through ten ecological layers, from dense, tropical vegetation to magical cloudforest; climbed challenging terrain, summitting on day two at 14,000 feet; camped by waterfalls and small remote villages; and on the final day, awoke just after 4 am, and hiked to Machu Picchu in time for sunrise. Well, it was cloudy, but the sun was in there somewhere... It was fantastic!

Our group of sixteen was the best!

We passed small villages and homes along the way. This little girl was the cutest!

And there's the train...

It was pretty steep at times, but I preferred downward to up!

"See...a 4-day hike is much more fun than some old train ride!"

Our guides Cesar and Freddy...awesome!

How cool are these flowers?!

Our amazing porters, who literally ran with huge packs on their backs to set-up lunch and camp for us, cheered each time we finished. They rocked.

Machu Picchu!
